Have you ever heard someone talking about how much they LOVE riding on a motorcycle or LOVE driving a fast car? Or maybe how much they love riding a bike really fast? Or maybe how much they love horseback riding at a full gallop?
I have never once experienced any hint of euphoria whilst riding a motorcycle, car, bicycle, or horse.
Come to think of it, I don't think I've ever been on a real motorcycle--only a scooter.
The words that come to mind, for me personally, when it comes to these experiences are: frightening and dangerous.
If for some reason I had to be a driver or passenger in a really fast car, I promise you--this is what my thought process would be:
FEAR DANGER FEAR DANGER BAD BAD BAD FEAR DANGER.
I can't really imagine any way that the word HAPPY or the word REFRESHING could squeeze its way into my thought process.
There is, however, one type of transportation which I do find to be a great combination of: exhilirating, refreshing, relaxing, and picturesque......
Boating.
On the lake.
(Someone else can do the driving. I just like to be a passenger and feel the wind whip against my face.)
Boating is SO awesome in the early morning, while the lake water is still glassy and smooth.
Boating is SO awesome in the middle of the day, when we're pulling a tube with laughing children.
Boating is SO awesome at the end of the day, when we all have a happy, warm, sun-logged feeling.
When I was a little girl, I remember boating with my parents & our friends. Every once in a while I would wrap up in my towel and snuggle up to my mom, with my head in her lap. Even in my little cocoon of darkness, being on the boat was wonderful. Wrapped up in my warm towel, with the background hum of the engine in my ears and the familiar gentle bounce as we zipped through the water, I can remember feeling so happy and secure.
When my own kids, on their own initiative, curled up in towels and snuggled up next to me on the boat for the first time, I can remember thinking, "this is a full circle moment! I'm the mama now!"
Such happy memories!
Hooray for boats.
