When I reflect back on 2010, I'm struck by how much we have to be thankful for. One of the things that immediately comes to mind is my dear, precious mother-in-law and her battle against breast cancer. She was diagnosed in late '09. She had a double mastectomy in January, and began treatment soon thereafter. Praise the Lord: Her final chemotherapy treatment was in June 2010. I'm so grateful that her cancer was caught very early, and that she received such outstanding medical care. She is such a joy to me--and to everyone who knows her!
January
- Superboy and his buddy gave their Native American Tribe report to their fellow 2nd graders. (If I had to give Superboy's buddy a bloggy nickname, it would be Sporty. This kid knows a lot about sports, especially when you consider his age. It's quite amazing, actually.)
- Hunter, Benton, and Ben went deer hunting in Texas. Hunter took his largest buck ever. Probably the largest buck he will ever take in his life. The deer scored 141 inches on Boone and Crockett. {sidenote: our family ate every bit of that delicious venison throughout 2010. Free range, organic, low in saturated fat, high in iron...I love being married to a deer hunter.}
- Early in January -- Hunter, Gram, Papa, and Superboy went to the Liberty Bowl in Memphis, TN. It was c-c-c-cold that day. The Hogs won the game by a field goal in overtime.
- Movie night with our friends. Hunter put up the big screen. The kids all cuddled up and watched Star Wars Episode 1. Then we had lightsaber wars, of course.
February
- Pumpkin got to spend a week with her grandparents.
- Pumpkin and I went to a symphony field trip.
- Winter Conference (with all Georgia schools.) Battle Ball remains a favorite conference activity.
March
- Went to eat BBQ lunch together as a family on Hunter's birthday. (Downtown. It was fun. Good eats.)
- Celebrated the beauty of our yard coming back to life. You know that spring has sprung when the camellias bust out with their pink-prom-dress loveliness.
- Lost a bet with our community group. (March Madness) Had to help our friends Stewart & ML with some yard work as a result.
- Finally got warm enough outside for Pumpkin to "go to the beach" in the front yard. {sidenote: Uncle Robert & Aunt Allison gave Pumpkin a pink parasol for Christmas '09. I'm telling you: she played with it practically EVERY day in 2010. She mainly plays with it inside, because she likes to keep it really clean. On this particular sunny day, however, she decided to bring it out.}
April
- Spent spring break with family, waiting for my baby niece to be born! We weren't able to stay up until her actual birth, but it was lots of fun to be there at the very end of the pregnancy. I got to tell her goodbye while she was still in utero, and then hug and kiss her in person when I saw her about a month later!
- Easter with the grandparents and other extended family.
- Played wiffle ball.
- Had a picnic.
- Learned more about perforins.
- Listened to a really great sermon: Disciplines of Guidance.
- Took Gram & Papa's dog, Moses, to the dog park and watched him run around.
- Praised the Lord for my new baby niece!
To be continued....
